Bluegill Pellet Feed Experiment
by Stu Moment

These bluegill were kept in a 4’ x 4’ floating cage for approximately 3 months. They were fed Purina Catfish Chow, twice per day, in the morning and again in the evening. (Four or five feedings would be better but I have to work.) They grew only 1 inch in length but as you can see, became chubby little fellows.

It took a couple of weeks before they would eat … but they finally gave in and were actively excited when I arrived at the dock.

In a separate experiment, using a small homemade floating cage (a Rubbermaid clothing container with 3/16 inch holes drilled for fresh water flow and floatation provided by cable tied foam pipe insulation) bait minnows taught small bluegill to eat ground up fish chow immediately.
